Style vs. Lifestyle
Is your life devoted to your Style or is your life devoted to your Lifestyle? According to all universal spiritual teachings, the difference between a person whose life is devoted to their Style and a person whose life is devoted to their Lifestyle is that the former is more concerned about dressing for success on the outside (Style) whereas the latter is more concerned about dressing for success on the inside (Lifestyle).
For example,
Consider the following story regarding this subject matter. Once upon a time, a mother wanted to teach her teenage daughter, Kelly, a lesson on lifestyle. Why? Because ever since Kelly was a child, she thought success came from her Style and not from her Lifestyle. Indeed, Kelly would always ask her mom to buy her name brand clothes and the latest fashion. Although the mom spoiled her daughter by buying her name brand clothes and the latest fashions, she also knew that the older her daughter would get, she'll eventually realize you can't always get your way because of the clothes you wear or the money you've acquired.
Indeed, it should also be pointed out that when Kelly was a child, she saw a commercial on television promoting name brand fashion. The slogan of this commercial was "If you want to achieve the best, then Dress For Success." In other words, based on this commercial, Kelly assumed that if you wear the latest fashion, then you'll be a success in whatever you do.
Indeed, during Kelly's freshmen, softmore and junior years in highschool, she ran for class president and ultimately won. However, she wasn't completely confident that she would win her first three years in highschool. Why? Because her contenders also wore name brand clothes and the latest fashions as well.
However, during her senior year in highschool, Kelly was completely confident she would win. Why? Because her top contender was "a Goth Girl" named Gaby. Indeed, Kelly was thinking, "I'm definitely winning class president this year. There's no way I'm losing to someone who looks like a vampire."
When the day of the election came, Kelly was anticipating another win, but when the moderator said, "Our new class president is.......drum roll.......Gaby the Goth," you can just imagine what Kelly's expression was. Because Kelly lost class president to "Gaby the Goth," her entire senior year was completely bitter. Indeed, not even the latest fashion could give her any peace of mind or happines anymore. Indeed, not even her Birthday, Christmas or Black Friday could give her happiness anymore as well.
When Kelly came home after losing the election, her mom inquired, "Hey honey, how did elections go?" When Kelly ignored her mom, went to her room and slammed her door, her mom obviously realized what the outcome of the elections were. When Kelly's attitude didn't improve after a month or so, her mom insisted, "Sweet pea, please sit down and listen to what I have to say. When you were younger, the latest fashion always made you happy, but because you lost class president, not even the latest fashion can give you happiness anymore. The lesson to be learned is this: What is the use of dressing for success on the outside if we're still unhappy because we failed to dress for success on the inside. In other words, no amount of dressing ourself in material fashion can give us any happiness if we don't dress ourself in spiritual fashion. What this essentially means is that we should be less concerned about our Style and more concerned about our Lifestyle."
The mother continued, "In his sermon entitled 'A Fresh New Attitude,' Joel Osteen beautifully said, 'Studies show that your attitude can have a greater impact on your success than your IQ. You can be extremely talented, have incredible potential, but if you don't have the right attitude, it will keep you from rising higher. We spend all kinds of time and money making sure the outside looks good, eating right, working out, wearing the latest fashions, and that's all fine. But too often we're not spending any time on the inside. Nice clothes won't cover up a bad attitude. A pretty face, perfect makeup, won't hide being bitter on the inside. Your attitude is going to determine your ALTITUDE. It will determine how high or how low you'll go."
